Fat Transfer to Breast: The Most Natural Way of Breast Augmentation

After liposuction, the fat removed was discarded. Now, it can be reused to inject into areas that lack volumes, such as the face, buttocks or breasts.

What is Fat transfer?

This surgical technique derived from liposuction is an autograft of adipose tissue. It consists of taking fat where it is too much, whatever the area (knees, belly, hips, thighs …) and transfer it where you want either face or boobs.

Breast augmentation by breast fat transfer consists of taking liposuction from the patient and then injecting it back into the breasts after centrifugation and filtration. The reinjected fat then behaves like a fat tissue graft and will then remain in place for life. To increase engraftment, it is important that the tissues are well vascularized and smoking is therefore prohibited.

This seductive concept intervention is only possible under certain conditions:

  • Patient should be under the age of 35
  • No personal or family history of breast cancer.
  • Preoperative imaging must be strictly normal (mammography, ultrasound, and MRI).
  • Morphotype adapted: indeed, to increase the 2 breasts of a cup size, it is necessary to reinject at least 300 cc of fat per breast. It will, therefore, take at least one liter of fat (to obtain 600 cc of purified fat). For this reason, breast augmentation by lipostructure is only possible when the patient has sufficient fat-donor areas.

On the other hand, in the case of pre-pectoral prostheses, fat transfer of the neckline to hide the upper pole of the prosthesis generally does not require more than 150 cc of fat to be reinjected and can therefore be performed even in a thin patient.

Before the operation of breast fat transfer

As with any intervention, 2 consultations will be mandatory. A precise radiological assessment including mammography, ultrasound, and MRI will be performed.

Injection of fat into the breasts

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 2 to 3 hours. You enter in the morning and usually leave the same evening (outpatient hospitalization).

The liposuction holes are extremely discreet. The collected fat is filtered, purified and centrifuged. The reinjection is done using very thin cannulas that leave no scars.

After the intervention of fat transfer

A compression garment is left in place after the procedure to maintain the areas aspirated and will be worn for a month.

A compression bandage maintains the breasts for 4 days and then will be replaced by a medical bra without braces to wear night and day for a month.

The aspirated zones and the injected zones present in the immediate suites significant edema (swelling). This one will disappear in the 2 months following the intervention. The final result in terms of volume and skin retraction will be obtained after 6 months.

The expected increase in fat transfer breast augmentation ranges from a simple small size to a cup size during a single fat transfer. Immediately after the operation, the chest will present edema (swelling) related to the operation. This edema will decrease and disappear completely in 3 to 6 months. This is why the final result obtained can only be judged after this time.
